JOHN R. PHILLIPS, JR.

John R. Phillips, Jr. has been certified as a Civil Trial Specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy since 1995. He is AV-rated by Martindale-Hubbell. Business litigation, domestic relations, personal injury and probate are his areas of practice, and he also serves as a mediator in domestic relations cases.



John is a 1973 graduate of Harvard University, and received his Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1976. He was admitted to the bar in 1976 in Tennessee and to the U.S. District Court, Middle District of Tennessee in 1979.


At Tennessee Law School, John won the American Jurisprudence Award in Constitutional Law and Torts.  He was President of the Sumner County Bar Association in 1979, and is also a member of both the Tennessee and American Bar Associations.  In 2011 he was appointed as a Co-Receiver for eight HALO-related companies by Chancellor Tom E. Gray with the liquidation of those companies along with resolution of their myriad legal issues successfully completed in 2014.
